OKLAHOMA CITY β Around 40 saxophone players from across the state will gather to perform their debut concert as the ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ Saxophone Ensemble. The βSaxophonic Worldsβ concert is free to the public and will be performed at 7 p.m. April 10 at ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City University. It will be held in the Bass Music Centerβs large rehearsal hall, room A110.
The ensemble, arranged under the baton of ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ instrumental music professor Joshua Heaney, has been drawn from as far away as Owasso, with a wide range of age groups β high school students, college students and seasoned professionals.
βThis is the only saxophone ensemble weβre aware of in the state,β Heaney said. βThe enthusiasm has been terrific. This will be a truly unique concert experience. The audience will be swept away by the lush harmonies and vibrant melodies, from soul-stirring ballads to energetic rock anthems.β
Performers represent the full spectrum of saxophone styles β soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and even the rarely utilized bass. The ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ Saxophone Ensemble was formed in the fall and has been gathering for rehearsals nearly every week since then with assistance from one of Heaneyβs graduate students, Sam Pollock.
Featuring a diverse repertoire spanning classical, contemporary and world music genres, the ensemble promises a musical journey that transcends boundaries and captivates audiences of all tastes. The program will include a Beethoven overture, an Irish folk tune, a rock βnβ roll classic and more.
