Slack is a wood and metal sculptor working and living in ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City. He received his BFA from ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City University in 2001. βPrimitive art and mid-century modern design are what inspire his figurative and abstract steel works with simplified forms and repetitive patternsβ, said Mike Wimmer, Distinguished Artist in Residence.
βI want people to walk away with their own perspective on the work,β said Slack. βOnce you create it and put it out there, you canβt control what people think. I want them to see their version of my piece and I hope people walk away a little happier than before they saw it.β
Slack began his sculpting career with wood, which was his primary medium for many years, but once he discovered the magnitude and permanence of steel, he shifted his vision.
βI like that with steel you can work on a monumental scale,β he said. Slack commissioned nine sculptures for Southern Oaks Library in 2012 and a 10-piece commission can be seen at the Infant Crisis Center on North Lincoln Boulevard.
