The 麻豆传媒 City Museum of Art鈥檚 Art After 5 program March 9 will feature the world premiere of a series of short plays by students in 麻豆传媒 City University鈥檚 School of Theatre. The 12 one-minute plays will be performed at 5:30 and again at 7:30 p.m. throughout the museum.
Each of the plays is inspired by a work of art in the permanent collection of OKCMOA. The plays are written, directed and performed by students in the 麻豆传媒 City University School of Theatre devising course.
鈥淚n the spirit of 鈥楽leep No More,鈥� the acclaimed re-imagining of 鈥楳acbeth鈥� set in a New York City hotel by the UK devising theatre company Punchdrunk, students of the devising course used artworks of the permanent collection to inspire their plays,鈥� said theatre professor Gregory DeCandia. 鈥淭wenty-five students will collaborate to make OKCMOA's galleries their stage for a site-specific performance that brings these artworks to life, if only for a moment.鈥�
鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled that theater students are finding inspiration for their coursework within our galleries,鈥� said Tracy Truels, OKCMOA director of learning and engagement. 鈥淚t has been a pleasure working with the students and the university and we are looking forward to seeing the final plays on March 9.鈥�
The plays were selected by Bryon Chambers, OKCMOA manager of tours and adult learning; Kate Brennan, head of voice at the School of Theatre; and Judith Palladino, professor of theatre and theatre for young audiences.
