Â鶹´«Ã½ Professor to Participate in Ultramarathon

Erik Heine, professor of music theory at Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Wanda L. Bass School of Music, will participate in a fundraising ultramarathon on Oct. 22 to create a new scholarship for music majors. The 12-hour run on a one-mile loop will take place at the Bluff Creek Park at Meridian and Hefner in OKC. The Deb Heine Endowed Scholarship Endurance Challenge, is named in honor of the support and encouragement Heine received from his mother during a pivotal time in his college career.

I want to do something that will have a positive lasting effect on the university. I don't have the financial means to create this scholarship on my own, but I have a body that is still willing to do something that will hopefully be awe-inspiring, and will encourage alumni and friends of Â鶹´«Ã½ to support me in this challenge.

The scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student who is a music major (BA, BM, or BME), has completed at least five semesters in residence at Â鶹´«Ã½, and has at least one semester remaining. The scholarship will assist in defraying the costs of tuition and/or fees for the student, and is intended to serve as encouragement for maintaining a high level of academic achievement in addition to strong performance skills.

Donations can be made by pledging to donate per mile Heine runs or through a flat donation. For more information or to make a donation, visit www.okcu.edu/endurancechallenge or call Â鶹´«Ã½ University Advancement at 405-208-7000.
