Jazz saxophonist and award-winning composer Bob Mintzer, a 2017 Grammy nominee, performs with the 18-piece ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City Jazz Orchestra at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, to kick off ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City Universityβs 2017 Distinguished Artists ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ at the Bass School of Music.
His latest album, βAll L.A. Bandβ released by Fuzzy Music, is a finalist in the Best Large Jazz Ensemble category for the 59th Grammy Awards.
Mintzer joins forces with the ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City Jazz Orchestra, now in its eighth year, praised by the ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ Gazette for restoring βperformances of full-scale, concert-style, big-band jazz arrangements back to the metro for the first time since the 1980s.β
