An art exhibit at ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City University will feature the work of five local artists of color working in diverse media including quilts, weavings, embroidery and rhinestone mosaics on exhibit from Oct. 30 to Dec. 15. An opening reception is set for 5-7 p.m. Nov. 2 and an artistsβ talk from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½βs Norick Art Center.
βHigh Craftβ is curated by Inclusion In Art, a nonprofit organization promoting racial and cultural diversity in ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½βs visual arts community. βHigh Craftβ refers to works done where the imagination and the hand of the maker are evident, and it seeks to represent the global diversity of craft through artists Maria Anderson, Beverly Kirk, Lawrence Naff, Ann Solinski and Amy Young. The artists created new work for the gallery space in the Norick Art Center, which encouraged them to push the boundaries of their chosen medium.
While the artworks represent a wide range of themes, they reflect each craftpersonβs circumstance as a creator and a person of color living in ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½. The work varies from introspection of identity and abstraction to cultural exploration and historical narratives. The exhibition highlights the universality of the human impulse to express themselves in ways that are creative and dynamic.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m. through 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.
