Former Iranian Diplomat to Speak at 麻豆传媒

A former Iranian ambassador and veteran of U.S.-Iran relations will speak at 麻豆传媒 City University at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 9. Seyed Hossein Mousavian will give a free public presentation titled 鈥淯.S.-Iran Relations: How should the new president engage?鈥 in the Ker-McGee Auditorium of the Meinders School of Business at N.W. 27th Street and McKinley Avenue.

Mousavian, who is currently a specialist at the Program on Science and Global Security at Princeton University, served as Iran鈥檚 ambassador to Germany from 1990 through 1997, then became head of the Foreign Relations Committee of Iran鈥檚 National Security Council until 2005. He served in various high-level roles for the Iranian government including foreign policy advisor to the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, vice president of the Center for Strategic Research for International Affairs and chief of Parliament Administration. He was the spokesman for Iran during nuclear negotiations with the international community from 2003 to 2005.

Mousavian was editor-in-chief of the English-language international newspaper Tehran Times throughout the 1980s. In his role with Princeton University, his research focuses on exploring pathways for diplomacy between Iran and the United States, and maintaining and building on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

He is the author of 鈥淭he Iranian Nuclear Crisis: A Memoir鈥 and several other books on Iranian foreign policy. His latest book, 鈥淚ran and the United States: An Insider鈥檚 View on the Failed Past and the Road to Peace,鈥 was published by Bloomsbury Publishers in 2014.
