English professor to give service-learning conference keynote

English professor Dr. Brooke Hessler will give the keynote address at the eighth annual ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ Service-Learning Conference will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ State University-ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City.

The conference is titled β€œAn Education of Service for a Life of Community Engagement.” The event is hosted annually by a consortium of institutions led by ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City University, Langston University, University of ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ and ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ State University, and by ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ Campus Compact. It features multiple tracks by discipline for service-learning and a community partners panel.

Participation is free and includes lunch. Registration is required on the conference .

Hessler’s presentation is titled β€œMake it a Good Story: What β€˜The Hero’s Journey’ Can Teach Us About Transformative Service-Learning.”
