ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City University will host a discussion of the book βKillers of the Flower Moonβ by David Grann at 7 p.m. Nov. 8. The discussion will be held in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel, and is free to the public.
Margie Burkhart, granddaughter of Mollie Burkhart, a prominent figure in the book, will be participating in the discussion led by ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ City University President Robert Henry and the Rev. David Wilson, an OKCU trustee.
βThis is a great opportunity to hear from Margie Burkhart who is in the book and whose grandmother is the central figure in the book,β Rev. David Wilson said. βShe will bring a personal voice to this tragic piece of ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ and Osage history.β
In the 1920s, members of the Osage Indian Nation in ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ were considered to be the richest people per capita in the world after the discovery of oil under their land. Then, they began to be killed off along with anyone who tried to investigate the crimes. Mollie Burkhart watched as her family was murdered; her older sister was shot; her mother was murdered and many more died under mysterious circumstances before a major F.B.I. investigation took place.
Numerous events will take place on campus during American Indian Heritage Week including a cultural art series and a basket weaving workshop. For more information on the book discussion or events taking place, visit .
