Biography
As Program Director, Bob is responsible for the strategic vision of the MFA Screen Acting program and its implementation. He regularly collaborates with colleagues at Goldsmiths to uphold the program’s pedagogic and professionalization goals, and to ensure the quality of student, faculty and staff experience across years 1 and 2 of the program. As Associate Professor, he teaches Independent Projects I & II, Movement II, and produces, directs and occasionally writes film productions that are produced in collaboration with the program.
As a creative, Bob is a story-maker and bridge-builder. His work often explores alone-ness, belonging and ideas of home. He is a big fan of fantasy, science fiction and any story - in any medium - that dares the reader/audience to imagine boldly & question playfully.
Originally from Manila, Philippines, Bob came to the US through foster care and adoption, after which he did most of his growing up in small towns in the Southeast US. Otherness and belonging, compassion and collaboration, and a robust harmony between rigor and play are foundational to his teaching and leadership styles. As an educator, Bob is passionate about training tomorrow’s story-makers for the screen and stage and preparing them for sustainable careers in entertainment and performing arts. Prior to Â鶹´«Ã½, he held faculty positions at Academy of Art University (San Francisco) and Accademia dell'Arte (Arezzo, Italy), and he's taught workshops and masterÂ鶹´«Ã½ at over 40 colleges and universities around the US.
His professional and educational work has been seen in New York, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Italy and beyond. In the San Francisco Bay Area, his production of GOLD: the Midas Musical was named Best World Premiere Musical by Theatre Bay Area and he was a finalist in the Best Director category. He was nominated for Best Director by BroadwayWorld San Francisco for the same production. The short films that he wrote, directed, and produced have been recognized at film festivals around the world, from Los Angeles to London and Tokyo.
Bob holds an MFA from the Accademia dell'Arte (Arezzo, Italy) and an undergraduate degree in Theatre with an emphasis in Acting and Directing from Western Kentucky University (Bowling Green, KY).
