Oct. 3rd Film Screening: Last Men in Aleppo

Join us for the continuation of our 37th annual film series on Wed., Oct. 3rd, 7:30 PM with Last Men in Aleppo – Feras Fayyad, Syria (2017), 83 min.

One of the most widely lauded documentaries of last year and Winner of the World Documentary Grand Jury Prize at 2017’s Sundance Film Festival, Last Men in Aleppo depicts the rescue work of the White Helmets, a citizen organization of first responders. And in Syria, during a long civil war, they are literally the first people to rush headlong into barely-finished airstrikes to excavate their neighbors from the urban rubble. Following two members of the White Helmets, we get to know intimately and experientially their struggle to serve the community and maintain their connection to a hometown now turned dangerous. A document of immense heroism in harrowing circumstances, it serves as a timely wake-up call for us all. In Arabic with English subtitles.

"They say those who have the power always write history. We who don't have power are now writing history, one that can't be (erased).” - Feras Fayyad, interview with Canadian Press
