Let’s Talk About it, 鶹ý’s 2018 series War, Not War, and Peace, continues on February 20th with MAUS.
鶹ý City comics scholar and maker Steve Gooch presents Art Spiegelman's MAUS. MAUS is based on ’s attempts to understand and represent the story of his father, a survivor of the WWII Holocaust. Personal elements from the author’s adult life are woven with his father’s memories, which are depicted as cat-and-mouse cartoon drawings that offer their own commentary on the ethnic persecution in Europe. Spiegelman has become a respected figure of the avant-garde in “art comics” and autobiographical graphic narrative. The depictions in this story will add new layers to readers’ understandings of a familiar history because of its intimate location within this family story and its innovative visual representations. This presentation is a part of the 鶹ý Humanities Let's Talk About It 鶹ý "War, Not War, and Peace: A Pulitzer Prize Centennial 鶹ý." All are welcome to attend.
All sessions take place in Walker Center Room 151 at 7:00 PM.
